Star City Canine Training Club Agility Class Descriptions

 

 

A dog that has never participated in agility classes will always start in a Foundations or Beginner agility class.  Beginner Obedience classes are required as prerequisites for all agility classes.  For dogs that have had previous agility training, please contact the Agility Chairperson for advice on enrolling in the appropriate class.  If you are enrolled in a class at the incorrect level, the instructor reserves the right to move you to a more suitable class.

 

          
 

 




Classes listed in blue will be offered during the current agility session.  All classes are 6 weeeks unless otherwise noted.

Six Week Classes $75

 

Foundations for Agility:  (6 Weeks)

This class focuses on preparation for agility, developing essential skills such as sit-stays, recalls and introductory jumping skills.  This class will also introduce your dog to pre-agility equipment such as the wobble board, ladder and tunnel and other equipment.  This class will be held indoors. 

 

Beginner Agility:  (6 Weeks)  
Dogs in this class will be introduced or continue to work on agility equipment, though not necessarily at full height.  By the end of the class, handlers will be doing short sequences, with dogs off lead.  This class focuses on developing handling skills and introduction to equipment.  Weave poles may or may not be introduced at the discretion of the instructor.  This class will be held outdoors

    

Beginner II Agility:  (6 Weeks) 

Dogs in this class will continue training on agility equipment up to and including full height.  By the end of the class, handlers will be doing longer sequences, with dogs off lead.  This class focuses on developing handling skills and mastering equipment.  Weave poles will be introduced in this class.  This class will be held outdoors.

Intermediate Agility: (6 Weeks)  

This class is for teams who are considering competing in agility.  This class will focus on proofing, handling skills and further refinement of obstacle skills.  Obstacles should be at full competition height.  Course sequencing will become longer and should reflect novice level courses.  Course analysis will be provided.  This class will be held outdoors.

Weaving and Handling:  (6 Weeks)

This class has an emphasis on attaining proficiency in the weave poles, obstacle discrimination, when and where to position yourself when changining direction on course, how to communicate these changes to your dog and other handling maneuvers as requested by class participants.  Weaving practice will be included each week.  This class will be held indoors.

 Advanced Agility:  (6 Weeks)

This class is for teams who are currently competing in agility.  This class will focus on different topics such as obstacle discrimination, distance training, difficult handling sequences and obstacle proofing.  This class will be held outdoors.
