registration for classes beginning in October is Wednesday,
September 29th,
2010.
Some
classes do NOT require dogs on the first night of class.
Please read
the course description for more information. Dates for the
first class
are indicated and continue consecutively, unless otherwise indicated.
Classes
are generally limited to 8-10 dogs, and classes are offered on a first
come,
first serve basis. Any applications received after a class is
full will
be placed on a waiting list for the class. Occasionally, obedience
classes are
offered during the daytime. Please let us know if you are
interested in
pursuing a daytime option by e-mailing .
Classes listed in blue
will be
offered during the October/Novrmber 2010 obedience
session. ALL
classes cost $85.00,
unless otherwise noted. We reserve the
right to cancel a class if there is not sufficient interest.
SCCTC classes are taught using
proactive and positive
reinforcement training techniques that include the use of food, toys,
and
praise as rewards for correct behavior. We look forward

you achieve your goals with your canine companion!

Obedience and competition classes are held in our air-conditioned and
heated
club building. Directions to the club building are on the

our website.
Puppy
Kindergarten Class (7
weeks)
Congratulations on your new
puppy. What an exciting
time for you and your family! Our puppy class, for puppies
8-18 weeks of
age, is planned to guide you through the critical stages of your
puppy’s
development with emphasis on socialization, prevention of problems and
teaching
basic manners and commands. No
puppies the first night
the class meets, please.

Beginner
Level I Obedience (7 weeks)
This class is designed for older
puppies and dogs with no
previous obedience training. You will learn how to teach your
dog using
scientifically proven reward based training techniques that will lay
the foundation
for effective communication, understanding, and form a strong
relationship with
your canine companion. Beginner I includes instruction for
the following
skills: attention, sit, down, wait, recall/come, stay, stand, leash
walking, as
well as good manners. No dogs the first
week the class meets,
please.

Beginner
Level II Obedience (7 weeks)
In this more
advanced beginner
class, dog/handler teams
will cement the learning and extend the skills from Beginner Level
I.
Skills include: attention, sit/down stay, heel position,
heeling/controlled
walking, and preparation for Canine Good Citizen class. The
prerequisite
for Beginner Level II is Beginner Level I or another previous obedience
class. Beginner II is generally the prerequisite for CGC,
Rally, and agility classes.

Canine Good
Citizen Class/Evaluation (7 weeks)
CGC
class prepares
dog/handler teams for AKC’s
Canine Good
Citizen evaluation. Basic obedience skills are practiced as
well as such
real life situations as walking through a crowd, separation from the
owner,
etc. Beginner II level skills are strongly encouraged and
serve as the
prerequisite for this course.

Therapy
Dog Class (7
weeks)
If you are interested in doing any
type of therapy dog
work in hospitals, nursing homes, or schools, then this class is a
must.
Throughout the course, you will learn proper procedures, expectations,
and
receive the training necessary to be very successful in therapy
work. The
course manual costs an additional $30.00. The class
culminates with
the opportunity to take the Delta Society Pet Partner
evaluation. The
general prerequisite is a CGC
certificate or
similar skills. No dogs on the first night
of class, please.

Competition
AKC
Rally Novice Obedience (6
Weeks)
Rally Obedience provides an
excellent introduction into
competition obedience as well as other dog sports as it encourages
teamwork and
affords an opportunity to strengthen both skills and a good working
relationship. During our Rally classes, you will learn the
rules, skills,
and exercises necessary to be successful in the Rally ring.
Successful
completion of Beginner Level II and/or CGC
is the prerequisite for Rally Novice, and the RN title/class is the
general
prerequisite for Rally Advanced/Excellent.

Competition Novice Obedience
(6 Weeks)
Competition Novice
Obedience introduces dog/handler teams to the
basic skills necessary to be successful in the Novice Obedience
ring.
Proper heel position is addressed, and dog/handler teams will learn
techniques
for better, more precise heeling, formal recall, stand for exam, figure
eight,
group stays, as well as the rules for competition obedience.
Ring-like
distractions will be introduced gradually as the class
progresses. The
prerequisite for our Novice Obedience classes includes CGC
and/or Beginner II or permission of the instructor and/or obedience
chairperson.
Introduction To Competition
Open Obedience (6 Weeks)
This class is
intended
to
introduce
dogs and handlers to the exercises for Open level
competition, covering the beginning of the retrieve,
introducing
jumping and the "drop on recall".
Some Utility exercises will also be introduced.

Ring
Proofing Class (6 Weeks)
This class will use
distractions and proofing in a 'show like' setting to prepare dogs for
the pressure of competition.
Students may be at any level and very close
to entering a trial. Class
size is limited to 7 dog handler teams.
Competition
Open/Utility Obedience (6 Weeks)
Open Obedience class prepares
dog/handler teams to
compete in the Open class in AKC
obedience
competition. The class will include training for the
following skills and
exercises: off leash heeling and figure eights, drop on recall,
dumbbell
retrieve, jumping over high and broad jumps, and include discussion of
rules
and regulations. Utility exercises will also be introduced. In order to
apply
for this class, you should have a CD on your dog and/or Novice
Obedience
skills. Preference will be given to CD titled dogs.
Dogs must be
reliable off leash. Previous Open Obedience classes
serve as the
prerequisite for this class. Class members may be asked to be
in charge
of one class during the session.
Competition
Utility
Obedience (6 weeks)
Utility Obedience class introduces
the complex behaviors
that make up the exercises in this advanced level of
obedience. An
introduction will be provided for signal exercises, directed retrieve,
directed
jumping, scent discrimination, and moving stand depending on the needs
of the
class members. Preference will be given
to CDX
titled dogs. Students will need to purchase/possess
properly sized
competition utility articles and white utility gloves prior to the
class
starting (see www.jjdog.com
for mentioned
items). Class limit: 8 dog/handler teams.
Introduction
to Canine
Freestyle
Come join the fun as we all learn
together. Canine Freestyle
is a dog sport in which teamwork and music combine to create a
choreographed
routine. We will learn several freestyle moves and strive to put
together a
short routine by the end of the session. The requirements for this
class are a
solid knowledge and performance of basic obedience skills.
Conformation
Handling Class
Our handling class, designed with
owner-handlers in mind,
provides basic information for competing in AKC/UKC
conformation shows as well as ring procedures and practice time in the
ring.
